 ‘The son’ spans three generations of the McCullough family of Texas. The wealthy family chose a harsh life on the frontiers, facing violence, loneliness and frontier justice at its worst to hold onto the vast lands that their family is tied to. The protagonist Eli McCullough sets a pace of mistakes and misadventures his future son and granddaughter will each unknowingly make for themselves in this beautifully dark coming of age tale. The book alternates between first and third person using highly descriptive language to style the beauty and danger of the frontier.
